Temptation Exhibition - Chania, Crete

Curated by British writer, visual artist and curator Sophie Parkin and British visual artist Nicholas Moore, the exhibition launches in Chania, Crete before moving to London.

The curators of the exhibition Sophie Parkin and Nicholas Moore note: “The Greeks have a special relationship with Temptation, which has its roots in their ancient philosophical search for human existence. As Aristotle wrote, “The eyes are the organs of Temptation”, a virtuous person would never be tempted by the image of a provocative scene, essentially the Greek word for Temptation means “Test”.

On the other hand, the British Oscar Wilde initially claimed in satire that he could resist anything “except Temptation” but later began to suspect what for our countries constitutes a moral principle, which states that Temptation is like a knife that can cut both our food and a person’s throat, it can be food or poison, exercise or destruction”.
