Dr Thomson is the retired Keeper/Director of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and an expert on the 18th/19th century Scottish painter Henry Raeburn.  I was painting Duncan in my studio in Edinburgh when one day, while combing his hair in the mirror, he saw his portrait reflected.  For a split second, he thought it was his own reflection.
